When young children or teens are hospitalized or experience other healthcare situations, they may face difficult and potentially stressful events that can affect their ability to cope and move forward in life successfully. Our certified Child Life Specialists at The Herman & Walter Samuelson Children’s Hospital at Sinai help patients navigate these experiences by providing developmentally appropriate interventions that reduce stress and normalize their experience.
One way to help provide normalcy is through the availability of play options they may have at home, including gaming systems. The hospital’s PlayStations get a lot of use and, with the rapid advancement of technology, become outdated fairly quickly. With 26 inpatient rooms, additional outpatient pediatric clinic spaces, and group play areas, it can be costly to keep all of them current and working properly.
Chespeake PCA has a goal of raising $20,000 to make possible the upgrading of outdated gaming systems, so that young patients can enjoy the distraction of playing them while in the hospital.
