We Cancerve
Pediatric Patient Assistance Fund
When a child is diagnosed with a serious illness or is injured and has a long recovery ahead, the entire family is often affected. One parent may need to quit their job to care for the child. While expenses may be increasing, income may be decreasing. The We Cancerve Pediatric Patient Assistance Fund at the Herman & Walter Samuelson Children’s Hospital at Sinai helps families focus on their ill children without worrying about bills and daily expenses associated with being caregivers for hospitalized children.
The We Cancerve Movement opened the Fund at Sinai in September 2016, in recognition of September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The fund helps children treated in the Alfred I. Coplan Pediatric Hematology Oncology Outpatient Center at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore where the We Cancerve Movement Founder, Grace Callwood, pictured here, was treated from 2011-2014. In addition, throughout the year, We Cancerve provides in-kind donations to put a smile on the faces of children treated for a variety of illnesses and injuries and/or to help their families with basic needs such as groceries and meals.
Your donation will help with meals for parents spending the day at the hospital with their child, transportation for children and parents considering cancelling their appointments when they cannot afford a ride, co-pays for medications and treatments for those in need, help with rent and utilities for families struggling due to their child’s medical situation, and more.
